EG 522D GROUP PROJECT-CLOUD TECHNOLOGIES CASE STUDY

1)Identify the components that will be migrated to cloud

 To solve the current servers are aging with frequent hard disk failures and power outages.

First, we need to identify their company current is using what kind of hardware, operating system and server. From the provided details, we known that they are using on-premise server.

Secondly, we have do some research on 5 cloud company using same comparison such as operating system (Virtualization layer, Full virtualization with microsoft SQL server 2019),hardware , cloud services and cloud deloyment model.

 Chart details from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Elastic_Compute_Cloud#/media/File:Amazon_EC2_AWS_pricing_compared_to_similar_services_3.jpg

Based on the above analysis, we choose Amazon EC2 because AWS is the leader of the cloud and their service performance are better than other cloud company.

2a. Describe the cloud services that will be used in this setup

We will use Iaas in this setup because infrastructure as a service (IaaS) is a form of cloud computing that provides virtualized computing resources over the internet. IaaS is one of the three main categories of cloud computing services, alongside software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS).

In the IaaS model, the cloud provider manages IT infrastructures such as storage, server and networking resources, and delivers them to subscriber organizations via virtual machines accessible through the internet. IaaS can have many benefits for organizations, such as potentially making workloads faster, easier, more flexible and more cost efficient.

In an IaaS service model, a cloud provider hosts the infrastructure components that are traditionally present in an on-premises data center. This includes servers, storage and networking hardware, as well as the virtualization or hypervisor layer.

IaaS providers also supply a range of services to accompany those infrastructure components. These can include the following:

  • detailed billing;

  • monitoring;

  • log access;

  • security;

  • load balancing;

  • clustering; and

  • storage resiliency, such as backup, replication and recovery.

These services are increasingly policy-driven, enabling IaaS users to implement greater levels of automation and orchestration for important infrastructure tasks. For example, a user can implement policies to drive load balancing to maintain application availability and performance.

2b. Describe the deployment(s) that will be used in this setup

We will choose hybrid cloud be our first priority because AWS hybrid cloud services deliver a consistent AWS experience wherever you need it – from the cloud, to on premises, and at the edge. Select from the broadest set of compute, networking, storage, security, identity, data integration, management, monitoring, and operations services to build hybrid architectures that meet our customer specific requirements and use cases. The advantage of hybrid cloud are;

1)Provide scalable computing power of a public cloud with security and control of a private cloud

2)Store data securely in private cloud (behind the firewall) and move the data securely to a public cloud for data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) models generation

3)Cost effective though the initial expenditure for the private cloud can be significant

 3a. Tabulate an estimated cost for Amazon,Google and Microsoft Cloud

 Based on the cloud product price analysis, Google Cloud cost is the highest. Our team choose on Amazon EC2 for our cloud provide because of AWS brings benefits at a glance included of Easy to use,Flexible,Cost-Effective,Reliable,Scalable and high-performance and secure.

Besides that ,AWS is using on measured Service pay as you go. The resource usage can be monitored, controlled, and reported providing transparency for both the provider and consumer of the utilized service.

4a. Discuss the migration plan

The migration process

The three-phase migration process is designed to help the organization approach a migration of tens, hundreds, or thousands of applications. While each phase is a common component of a successful migration, they are not discrete phases, but an iterative process. As iterate and migrate more applications, we are able to drive repeatability and predictability in processes and procedures, and find that the migration process accelerates. Besides that, We can review the comprehensive portfolio of AWS migration tools and our mature third-party migration tooling ecosystem provides automation and intelligent recommendations based on AWS machine learning to simplify and accelerate each step of the three-phase migration process.

The below are the mainly 3 steps.

1)Access on Migration Evaluator, which provides a total cost of ownership (TCO) projection for AWS based on your actual utilization of resources and our years of helping customers optimize their compute, storage, database, networking, and software licenses on AWS. When you only need to generate right-sized EC2 instance recommendations for running on-premises workloads in AWS, use AWS Migration Hub.

2)Mobilize:As part of the mobilize phase, you create a migration plan and refine your business case. You address gaps in your organization’s readiness that were uncovered in the assess phase, with a focus on building your baseline environment (the “landing zone”), driving operational readiness, and developing cloud skills.

3)Migrate and modernize:During the migrate and modernize phase, each application is designed, migrated, and validated.AWS Migration Hub is the one destination for cloud migration and modernization, giving you the tools you need to accelerate and simplify your journey with AWS. Perhaps you’re making the case for cloud within your organization, or creating a data-driven inventory of existing IT assets. Maybe you’re planning, running, and tracking a portfolio of applications migrating to AWS. Or you might be modernizing applications already running on AWS. In all of these cases, Migration Hub can help with your cloud transformation journey.

Therefore, we will migrate all of the important requirement into AWS CLOUD  such as Operating system,Hypervisors/Full virtualization,hardware requirement,ram memory,hybrid cloud deployment and cloud security.

5. Propose future plans for extending the cloud adoption

Our propose future plans is extending the cloud adoption to Emerging Trends such as Cloud computing enhancement,Fog/Edge computing and Serverless computing. We can also add in Cloud computing trends such as 5G,Internet of Things/Industrial Internet of Things,Big data and Artificial Intelligence for solve our customer problems.

Besides that, our first preferable emerging trends is 5G because it can increase the customer ordering processing time,ultra low latency and consistent user experience to more users.

SUMMARY

Dear Management Team,

                We are glad to propose to migrated the current online ordering portal to AWS cloud server because i believe that AWS cloud can solve those problems such as servers are having difficulty in processing the incoming orders especially during the ordering spike that happens in Apr, Nov and Dec period. Besides that , we are also suggest management team to upgrade the operating system /RAM/Processor/to more advanced options. With this selection, we believe that even though the customer will be more in future , the system will also keep continue running without ordering spike cause the revenue drop. Alternatively, don’t be afraid on the Cloud server price because the AWS is using on measured Service pay as you go. The resource usage can be monitored, controlled, and reported providing transparency for both the provider and consumer of the utilized service. Therefore, please take a consideration for our proposal.

Thanks.

                                                                                                                         Regards,

Regards,                                                                                                                       Power Power project team
